In the Italian region of Sicily, is the archipelago of the Pelagie, a group of volcanic islands in the waters of the Strait of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea. The largest and most important of this archipelago is Lampedusa, administrative place that belongs to Italy, but its location belongs to the African continent.

To reach Lampedusa must travel the 205 km that separate it from Sicily by ferry trips from the Port Empedocles, but the island also has a small airport, which receives many domestic flights in the summer, when hundreds arrive daily tourists in search of relaxation on the beaches of the island.

Lampedusa is an island with a size of eight square miles and has approximately 5 000 inhabitants. Most of the territory is rocky and the climate of the place is very comfortable, with little rainfall throughout the year. The major attraction of the island is without doubt the surrounding waters.
