National Roman Museum
We have spoken at other times of the amount of places you can visit in Rome, and some of its museums. Amongst them the National Museum of Rome, where you can enjoy lots of art, as in its interior is one of the most important archaeological collections in the world.
In this sense, Rome is an archeological mine the same or similar magnitude can be Athens. His remains are the traces of an important historical past in the history of mankind. For this reason, our trip to Rome would seem incomplete without visiting some of those museums that keep as precious treasures.
At the National Museum of Rome, and once inside, we must bear in mind that the collection is distributed in various facilities: the Palazzo Altemps, baths of Diocletian, which include the Octagonal Hall and the Palazzo Massimo.
Emphasizes the building of the baths, that is impressive: not for nothing is the greatest of the ancient world. In fact, had a caldarium, a frigidarium tepidarium and, like all the bathrooms, but also had many rooms. Its large size is a sample of the many people who harbored (about 3,000 at a time)
The other area of ??the museum, the octagonal hall, is in the southwestern part of the Diocletian Baths. In his time, can serve as a passage.
We have said that this is a collection of great importance, and as shown, one need only cite some of the exhibits there, like the Lyceum Apollo, which is a copy of the original of Praxiteles, which was found near the baths Trajan. It also highlights the Aphrodite of Cyrene, which is a fantastic copy of a late Hellenistic original.
The other area, the Palazzo Massimo was built between 1883 and 1887 by Camillo Pistrucci.
On the first floor you can see a series of iconographic works ranging from the Flavian period to the last empire. It is very interesting to see examples of the decorations that were used in the imperial residences.
On the next floor, is the documentation of the last imperial age, with special prominence of the mosaic, which was instrumental in Roman times, and decorations illustrated. And in the basement, you can see a coin collection, among which parts such as the medallion of Theodoric.
